Welcome
Karden's Kids

Hi! I'm Karden and I love digging in the dirt. Do you want to go on an adventure with me in the garden?

Orange you ready for fun?

Have you ever pulled a carrot right from the ground? Its so exciting to see how long the carrot will be once you starting pulling it out. I always get a little nervous.

For this activity you can even buy your carrots from the store. Take a close look at the carrots and feel that they are bumpy and even a little hairy? I always imagine my carrots have little faces and are saying "Hi Karden, I can't wait to get in to your tummy!".

How do you grow a pizza?

There are so many different flavors in pizza and I love it when it is really colorful and fresh. My friend Lisa told me that the best pizza ever has lots of basil leaves all over it. So she showed me this basil plant! We took it home to plant and we are going to make a pizza later!

Joke of the Week:

What did the corn say when he was complimented?
Aww, shucks
!

Can you guess the veggie?

This tricky leaf belongs to... a cucumber! Can you believe that hidden in all of these big leaves are a crunchy snack?

How did you grow today as a Karden Kid?

Did you eat your veggies and grow an inch, or did you count how many fingers tall your grass grew?

Tell us how you grew this week for a chance to be Karden's Kid of the Week!

Karden was created as a character to be included in a book by Lisa Ely and Michael Glassman. At first Karden was just a prop used to help teach kids about gardening. However, as soon as Karden came to life he became so much more than that. Now a complete member of the Ely household, Karden is like every other kid out there. He laughs. He learns. He loves to get dirty! Karden is a little boy who thirsts to understand everything around him. It’s not enough for him to know that something simply works, or happens, or even IS. He needs to understand how and why. He is curious to no end, and loves to explore new things with his family and friends. Karden is often described as being hyper, but that’s probably just because he giggles a lot. When he doesn’t know something Karden actually enjoys it because it gives him the opportunity to learn and find out something new. Learning is an adventure, and he will always share what he learns with others.

Karden is committed to helping you smile. His goals are to foster within each of his friends a positive self-esteem, confidence, caring for our planet, having fun together as a family unit, and learning as an adventure. Get to know Karden and you’ll not only like him, you’ll love him!
