Snow Tracks

One of the best things about winter is snow!
We don’t get to see a lot of snow where I live in Southern CA so when we do go to where it’s snowing, it’s extra EXTRA fun!

While recently exploring a snow-covered yard, we came across something that looked like animal tracks! Wow!  We love learning more about the animals that visit our garden and chasing tracks in the snow makes it that much easier.
Hopefully exploring tracks will spark a ton of questions. What kind of animal left this paw print?  Where was the animal coming from?  Where was the animal was going?  How did the animal walk or run?
Now, if you don’t have snow around your garden, you can still explore and look for tracks. It might be a bit harder, but animals also leave paw prints in mud and dirt.  (So do people which is the track we found here.)

If you can’t find any, make your own with sticks and rocks!

The best time to explore tracks is in the early morning before the ground gets messed up from people walking around or leaves blowing around. By the end of the day, most the tracks will turn to mush!
