Besides being a beneficial flower by attracting ladybugs and bees to the garden, marigolds are totally awesome because they are easy to take care of. As flowers go, they don’t require much work at all and can grow for a number of seasons. They are even strong, or “hardy,” enough to fight off droughts and frosts.
Lisa Ely Gardens was a natural transition during a lifetime love of the outdoors. From television and media producer traveling the globe experiencing tastes and cultures around the world, to children's author, and now to creating open and visually stunning garden spaces for students and families to experience dynamic lessons in outdoor community classrooms, Lisa Ely is always developing something new, fun and exciting.
Use our printable ruler (if you can't find one handy), and create a simple week log with your kids.
- Pick a day of the week. Maybe Saturday mornings when everyone is making breakfast, or Wednesday night before homework, whatever works best for your family.
- Create a simple table to keep track of the weeks. I have a twelve week grid on my printable ruler, but a hand drawn log will work just as well.
- One time per week measure the growth in half inches or whole inches and mark it on your grid. This is a good way to learn estimating and not get caught up in the hard part of learning metric increments on the ruler. Discuss with your child why they think the plant may or may not have grown. Did you remember to water it enough? Was it cold outside, did a critter take a few bites, you get the idea.
Send us a photo of your project and we will try to help you out!
Write something about yourself. No need to be fancy, just an overview.
